windrush wealth x @ms.semple
making wealth + legacy easier to understand, talk about + act on.
an intergenerational content + event partnership proposal by oleta semple
-
congratulations to luke on bringing this together. the expo feels timely, important and aligned with the work i’m already doing through @ms.semple and riónce caribbean.there is a natural connection between windrush wealth, family, culture, ownership and intergenerational stories.
my role would be to make the day feel warm, human and engaging while documenting the people and conversations already in the room. the content should feel story-led rather than overly instructional: moments that make people stop, recognise themselves and want to be part of what is happening.
-
most of my audience is 25–34,
followed by 35–44 and 45–55.
the expo creates an opportunity to naturally bring generations towards conversations & next steps around wealth + investment. rather than focusing only on inheritance, wills or financial planning, the content i’d create before, during + after would explore the memories, humour, hopes and experiences behind family wealth and legacy.
possible questions include:
✓ where were you born and what is your earliest memory?
✓ what did your parents teach you about money, directly or indirectly?
✓ what did they never talk about?
✓ what did you dream of becoming?
✓ what is a story your family tells repeatedly?
✓ what do you understand differently about your parents now?
✓ what do you wish you had asked them earlier?
✓ what do you hope your children remember about you?
✓ what does legacy mean to you?
✓ what brought you to the expo and what do you hope to take away?
these questions allow conversations about property, inheritance, ownership and financial responsibility to emerge through real experiences rather than feeling forced.
some of my tobago stories
a lot of my relationship with tobago has already played out publicly; simply sharing what i've found, learnt + loved while i've been there.

the proposal
-
✓ 2 pre-event content pieces through @ms.semple
✓ event-day attendance from 9:30am–7:30pm
✓ roaming conversations with attendees, families, speakers and exhibitors
✓ my own videographer throughout the day
✓ short on-camera check-ins with luke
✓ storytelling focused on the generations present
✓ one 30–45 minute intergenerational social segment in the evening
✓ post-event review of the strongest stories and content opportunities
-
aimed mainly at my 25–34 audience.
/// piece 01 | the conversations we leave too late ///
this would explore questions families often avoid until they become urgent, including where important documents are kept, what the family owns, what has or has not been discussed and what each generation is nervous to ask.
the tone would focus on family dynamics, humour and the awkwardness of starting these conversations rather than presenting a financial checklist.
/// piece 02 | what gets passed down ///
this would explore what people inherit beyond money: stories, recipes, sayings, habits, music, values, property, expectations and memories.
the focus would be on what people have received, what they hope to pass on and what they want to do differently.
the aim is to make the expo feel relevant to people, their families and their stories.
-
my videographer would follow me around the venue while i speak to people naturally. the focus would be on warm, funny, surprising or recognisable moments rather than formal testimonials.
/// conversations could cover ///
✓ childhood, migration, music, food and family traditions
✓ parents, grandparents and lessons learned
✓ dreams, hopes and what people want to leave behind
✓ family stories, humour and disagreements
✓ what people wish they had asked older relatives
✓ whether families talk openly about money
✓ property, family businesses and financial responsibility
✓ what brought people to the expo and what they hope to learn
✓ what they would tell the next generation
the story would come first, with practical learning emerging naturally.
i’d also capture short check-ins with luke covering:
✓ why he created the expo
✓ what he has noticed about the generations attending
✓ which conversations he is most looking forward to
✓ what he hopes people feel when they leave
✓ his reflection at the end of the day
-
/// the content should feel ///
✓ natural and warm
✓ curious and culturally aware
✓ funny where appropriate
✓ intergenerational
✓ visually engaging
✓ easy to watch and share
i would avoid making every piece feel like an advert or lesson. the strongest content will come from people telling stories in their own words, with the expo as the setting where those stories meet.
-
some content can be used by luke and windrush wealth through the website and his personal platform.
intergenerational stories may also sit naturally within riónce caribbean where they connect to family, migration, culture, ownership, money, identity or legacy.
i would not position this first event as a formal riónce caribbean x windrush wealth production. where a story genuinely connects to both platforms, we can use collaborative posts.
filming and usage would be agreed in advance, including where content can be shared, by whom and for how long.
-
i’d keep the evening social, simple and easy to join.
rather than producing the full 7–10pm programme, i’d host one 30–45 minute intergenerational segment. this could be a relaxed quiz, game or storytelling activity around:
✓ caribbean culture, music and food
✓ family sayings and childhood memories
✓ generational differences
✓ money habits
✓ family myths and funny stories
the aim would be to get people talking and laughing without making the evening feel overly programmed. afterwards, the evening can move naturally into food, music, dominoes, conversation and any confirmed performances.
-
✓ lead with people and stories rather than information
✓ make the expo welcoming to people who may not feel financially confident
✓ show that wealth and legacy are about more than money
✓ include different ages, backgrounds and family experiences
✓ use humour and curiosity to open serious conversations
✓ keep the social area concentrated so it feels fuller and warmer
✓ make the evening easy to join
✓ use the first event to learn which stories, questions and formats resonate most

ultimately, i think there is something really useful in bringing the practical side of windrush wealth together with more human, intergenerational storytelling.
if we can make people understand why this matters to them, get them talking + capture some of those conversations properly, there is value well beyond one event.
i’d love to see what we could build from this first one.
