riónce studio residency application tips

here’s what made strong applications stand out, and how to bring that same energy.

1. they didn’t just say “i want to do shoots”

they said what kind. for who. why now.

what’s the story behind the idea? what’s been sitting on your chest? what have you not had the chance to do properly?

vague = forgettable.

specific = memorable.

2. they were honest about what they needed

time, space, equipment, support.

not oversold. just clear.

“here’s where I’m at. here’s what would help.”

that level of honesty goes a long way.

3. they let their humanity come through

burnouts. pivots. self-doubt. starting again.

the strongest apps didn’t sound perfect, they sounded real.

tell the truth, this is not a pitch.

4. they showed the ripple effect

how their work moves beyond them, and how it would impact their community.

through joy, care, visibility, conversation or whatever way comes as a result.

5. they had a vision for the space

how it fits what they’re building.

what aspect of the studio residency & space itself makes possible.

share what’s been on hold, waiting for the right setup & what you know you’re meant to create at riónce.

penultimate tip

be you.

you don’t need to sound like anyone else.

feel free to get creative:

send us links to moodboards, mockups, short videos, sketches, screenshots, notes-to-self; anything that helps us feel the idea the way you feel it.

final tip

be honest. be clear.

have fun as you move yourself one step closer to your ideas coming to fruition.

“happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

– gandhi
