riónce arts club x semple london summer school 2026

23rd july – end of september
rionce ladywell studio + local south london spaces

i think a lot of us forgot how to play.

not because we’re boring.
life just got very real.

work, bills, deadlines, grief, stress, long commutes, trying to be responsible, trying to be taken seriously, trying to keep everything together.

then somewhere along the way, play started feeling like something for kids. or something you do when everything else is done.

but everything is never done, so here we are.

this summer, i’m opening the studio for summer school.

not school school.
no one’s marking your homework.
no one’s asking you to explain your work to the class.
although i probably will ask you to put things back where you found them when you’re done haha.

it’s open time to come and be creative, be around people, try things, make things, talk, laugh, sew, paint, write, sing, read, sit, reset, or just be in a room that feels alive.

the studio will be open every:

wednesday, 7pm – 11pm
thursday, 7pm – 11pm
sunday, 3pm – 7pm

come after work.
come when you need somewhere to go.
come when you want to make something but don’t want to be by yourself.
come when you don’t even know what you’re doing yet.

that’s allowed.

we’ll have standard open studio sessions where we all hang out + get creative with our own projects or equipment at the stu. as well as specialist clubs, curated creative nights, music, discussion, art, sewing clubs; park days, school trips and random 48-hour notice sessions for the people who like a little surprise in the group chat.

most things will be included. some ad hoc activities may cost extra depending on what we’re doing, who’s leading it, or if we’re using another space.

committed + collective students get:

a 45-minute small group with rebecca
a chance to pause, share what you’ve been making, celebrate yourprogress, talk through what’s been getting in the way and leave with fresh perspective, clear next steps and the encouragement to keep going.

a 20-minute 1:1 with oleta
a quick check-in to talk about what you’re making, exploring, building, returning to or figuring out.

it’s fun and chilled, but there’s still a little bit of structure so we don’t all just float off into the abyss.

this isn’t about being the best in the room.

it’s not about being productive.
it’s not about turning every hobby into a business.
it’s not about making content out of everything.

it’s about having somewhere to go.

somewhere to make.
somewhere to meet people.
somewhere to be offline for a bit.
somewhere to play without feeling silly.
somewhere to remember that life is meant to have texture.

the digital age has made it very easy to be visible and still feel disconnected.

so for me, summer school is a small bit of social activism for connection.

a reason to leave the house.
a reason to try something.
a reason to gather.
a reason to be a beginner again.
a reason to make your week feel less dry.
